Lake City Florida Alligator Town
Lake City Florida "Alligator Town"
Lake City was named for the Seminole Indian Village located where it was founded. The Village was named Alpata Telophka, meaning "Alligator Town". The name was changed when the Mayors wife moved into town and refused to hang her lace curtains in a town named Alligator. Although the name has changed, Lake City still holds its annual ¿Alligator Fest¿ each October. Lake City is located in North Central Florida in Columbia County where Interstates 10 & 75 cross and about 40 miles from Georgia. You can reach the ocean in about an hour from either the east or the west. Lake City is most known for hosting the Olustee Battle Festival & Re-Enactment every February since 1976. 
Lake City has grown considerable in the last 10 years. With a population of over 10,000 Lake City is the county's economic and governmental center. When visiting Lake City, you will find a small town charm and class followed by a forward thinking and a forward moving town full of modern day conveniences and amenities. Thousands of people work and thrive in the towns many businesses ranging from mining to manufacturing. From the Lake City mall to the new Super Wal-mart, there are an abundance of places to shop and explore.
Because of the excellent location along I-75 & I10, tourism is also a benefit to our area, supporting more than two thousand motel rooms and numerous restaurants.
